youarenotalone is a zine of original, short horror stories, written and self-published in Brooklyn by brothers Taylor and Alex Gonzalez.
Taylor and Alex are first-generation, half-Puerto Rican, half-Salvadoran writers born and raised in Tampa, Florida. Unbeknownst to them, they grew up uncomfortably close to the traditional superstition of many Latin cultures, resulting in their extended family being riddled by myth, psychics and protective spirits.
One day in the fall of 2018, the brothers decided to put a few of their creepiest stories into a self-published black book and anonymously mail them to their horror-loving friends for Halloween. The recipients were frightened and confused when they received the nondescript package from a strange return address in Florida: a defunct Christian summer camp that the brothers attended when they were children.
The brothers were so inspired by the response that they published a second issue and developed a live spooky story show, where they invited horror writers to read scary stories in the dark in Brooklyn's oldest, scariest puppet theatre. The second show, on Halloween of 2019, was headlined by R.L. Stine.
Alex is a represented WGA screenwriter whose first novella, "Land Shark," was just published on Madness Heart Press. Taylor is one of the founders of The Diverse as Fuck Comedy Festival in NYC and video collective deadass.tv. They also both developed and serve as Managing Editor (Alex) and Artistic Director (Taylor) for Flexx Magazine, a POC satire site similar to The Onion, but not so white.
